EstimateMaterial.com exists to answer one deceptively tricky question: how much material do I actually need?

Every home project starts with a shopping trip, and almost every shopping trip starts with a guess. Guess low and you're back at the store mid-project. Guess high and you've paid for paint, flooring, or stain that ends up in the garage. Our calculators replace that guess with a clear number — and show you the math behind it.

What makes us different

• Brand-neutral. We don't sell materials and we're not sponsored by a manufacturer. The numbers are calculated to help you, not to sell you a specific product.
• Transparent math. Every result shows the surface area, coverage rate, and assumptions used, so you can sanity-check it or adjust for your specific job.
• Fast and free. No sign-up, no paywall, no app to download. The tools work on your phone right there in the store aisle.

How our estimates are calculated

Our calculators use the standard coverage figures and measurement formulas used across the building trades — for example, 350–400 square feet per gallon for interior wall paint, and a standard 21 sq ft deduction for doors and 15 sq ft for windows. Where coverage varies by product or surface, we expose the figure as an editable Advanced setting so you can match your specific material.

Estimates are a planning tool, not a guarantee. Surface texture, porosity, application method, and color changes all affect real-world coverage, so we always recommend buying a little extra for touch-ups and color matching.
